In transport research, discrete choice models are used to represent many aspects of travel behaviour. They model the choice of a decision-maker who is confronted with a set of discrete alternatives and chooses the alternative that maximises his or her utility. Discrete choice models give analysts and political decision-makers the opportunity to asses the impacts of infrastructure schemes and transportation policies in different scenarios with relatively low effort.
