The essay analyses Hegel's conception of objective liberty and the connected critique of simply formal or subjective conceptions of liberty, in order to test their topicality. Even if Hegel does not bring to its extreme consequences the potential liberty of modern society, the idea that liberty should be considered starting from the constitutional frame in which it is realized is still an important lesson for orienting our understanding and collective practice of liberty
