This paper deals with the themes and the approaches of the conference «Mobile boundaries. Language and culture in tourism discourse» (Milan, 10-12.11.2010). The symposium aimed to promote a dialogue among different scientific disciplines interested in tourism, and to present the results of an investigation project about the language of tourism. One of the keynote subjects was the function of language in the creation of touristic identities, with a special reference to the requalification of post-industrial areas
