Dynamisch-aeroelastische Instabilität von Brücken kann je nach Querschnittsausbildung als gekoppeltes Biege-Torsions-Flattern oder als entkoppeltes Torsionsflattern auftreten. Zu ersterem neigen Brücken mit plattenähnlichem, zu letzterem Brücken mit nichtplattenähnlichem Profil. Ein rechnerischer Nachweis des Torsionsflatterns auf der Grundlage gemessener aerodynamischer Beiwertfunktionen entspricht im Prinzip dem Nachweis des gekoppelten Flatterns, kann gegenüber diesem aber weitgehend vereinfacht werden.
