O USO DA ESTATÍSTICA DESCRITIVA NA PESQUISA EM CUSTOS: ANÁLISE DO XIV CONGRESSO BRASILEIRO DE CUSTOS

The objective of this article is the study of the utilization of descriptive statistics in costs researches, specifically in those presented in XIV Brazilian Congress of Costs, carried out in 2007, in João Pessoa city (PB). Firstly one does a theoretical revision about descriptive statistic and the presentation of the Costs Congress, carried out since 1994, under the organization of the Brazilian Association of Costs. In the sequence the methodological aspects of the study are presented, classified as descriptive, quantitative and applied. To answer to the research problem it was used as a technical procedure the bibliographical revision and the descriptive statistics. The development of the study was based in the analysis of 238 articles admitted in the referred congress. It was analyzed the technical procedures of collection and the analysis of adopted data and the relationship to the descriptive statistics in the problem explanation It is verified that the articles that use as technical procedure the bibliographical revision in its great majority have not used the descriptive statistic having preferred other analysis techniques. In a different ways, about 40% of the articles that used as a technical procedure the case study or which presented models or practical exercises used elements of the descriptive statistics. The articles that used as technical procedure the finding and documental research, about 90%, used the descriptive statistics as frequencies and tables.Este artigo tem como objetivo o estudo da utilização da estatística descritiva em pesquisas em custos, especificamente naquelas apresentadas no XIV Congresso Brasileiro de Custos (CBC), realizado em 2007 na cidade de João Pessoa (PB). Primeiramente, faz-se uma revisão teórica sobre a estatística descritiva e a apresentação do Congresso de Custos, realizado desde 1994, sob a organização da Associação Brasileira de Custos (ABC). Na seqüência, apresentam-se os aspectos metodológicos do estudo, classificado como descritivo, quantitativo e aplicado. Para responder ao problema de pesquisa utilizou-se, como procedimento técnico, a revisão bibliográfica e a estatística descritiva. O desenvolvimento do estudo baseou-se na análise dos 238 artigos admitidos no referido congresso. Analisam-se os procedimentos técnicos de coleta e análise de dados adotados e a relação com a estatística descritiva na explicação do problema. Verifica-se que os artigos que utilizam como procedimento técnico a revisão bibliográfica, em sua grande maioria, não utilizaram a estatística descritiva, tendo preferido outras técnicas de análise. De forma diversa, cerca de 40% dos artigos que utilizaram como procedimento técnico o estudo de caso, ou que apresentaram modelos ou exercícios práticos, utilizaram elementos da estatística descritiva. Já os artigos que utilizaram como procedimentos técnicos o levantamento e a pesquisa documental, cerca de 90%, utilizaram a estatística descritiva, como freqüências e tabelas
