Stockton Revamped-Oak Park Skate Park

The goal of this project was to inspire the Stockton community by revitalizing Oak Park, an area which has the potential to be a huge community gathering area. 2x2 Engineering hoped to jumpstart the revitalization of the park by designing a skate park, multiple covered seating areas, and a new bathroom. The design of the project focused on increasing community meeting areas, ensuring the skater safety, improving site grading, and incorporating sustainability into the design elements. The final design consisted of a concrete skate park with obstacles such as stairs, half-pipes, and ramps. Swales and retention ponds were added to the design to capture the excess stormwater runoff created by the introduction of impervious surface areas. The bathroom was redesigned in anticipation of increased traffic to the project area in Oak Park. The redesigned bathroom has the same dimensions as the current bathroom to mitigate environmental impacts. The design of the bathroom incorporates natural lighting and is made of locally sourced concrete. The project includes the design of steel awnings to allow skaters, families, and friends to escape the hot Stockton weather while also spending time outside. Steel decking, an extremely light and durable material, was chosen for the roof. The roof is supported by three columns. Benches and tables will be added underneath the awnings by contractors. It is the hope of 2x2 Engineering that the community will see the value of the park and continue to make improvements to the area using the same sustainable development practices outlined in this project. Project deliverables consist of a report and poster and powerpoint presentations that will be delivered by 2x2 Engineering on May 5, 2018
