Pioneer Pump Station Redesign Project

The Pioneer Pump Station in west Stockton receives water from an urban watershed of nearly 700 acres. The water is collected in a wet well, an underground storage structure, then pumped over the adjacent levee into a tributary drainage creek flowing into the Calaveras River. The City of Stockton requires that pump stations be designed for a minimum of a 100-year storm event. Currently, the existing pump station does not meet this standard due to increased runoff as a result of urbanization in the watershed. In addition, the substructure walls and supports, made of steel and wood, are corroding and rotting, diminishing the structural integrity of the entire pump station. The Pioneer Pump Station Redesign Project consists of the design of the wet well, concrete slab, timber structure to house the pumps and other equipment, and hydraulic design including pumps, pipes, and valves. The redesigned station has sufficient capacity to accommodate runoff from a 100-year storm per City standards. The pump station was designed to meet City of Stockton standards and specifications. Design considerations included operation and maintenance of the equipment, safety of operators, and the effects of the pump station on the surrounding environment
