Yours as ever [Jno?] Reid]persuded to take an mt in with me. as regard Mr. Makey a failure at the present time I am not realy to blame for I have been woefuly de[illegible] & I am trying to work my way [stricken word] out of it in an honorable way as soon as I can. horses have decreased in [value?][illegible] I have been decreased in the clop of horse represented to me from good to [inferences?] & crops have failed here 3 years. That is my particulars at present. I have sometime thought of selling out altogether & move to Cal. where it is warmer weather as Maggie is getting so as not able to stand the cold much. still no use of thinking at the present time.Maggie is still with me here in Kansas[1]Spring Valley Ranch Collyer Kans Nov 12-1888Brother JohnDear SirI reg your letter a few days ago & in reply would that that Sarah Y I will sell you my section of land (sect 31) for $8.00 per acre less than the amt we owe on it, the amt is about $1750. or $1800. This is by far the best section on the place for most every thing except stock. It is mostly land only about 15 or 20 [stricken word] acres that cant be [illegible] excelent farming lands, also, 3 miles of a good wire fence (4 wires high) & red cedar posts.
