Aug 6. Cloudy, foggy, and rainy all day nearly. Temp. 45 at non. Went ashore after the natives had made us a morning visit and brought us a few odds and ends from the wreck. WE visited most of the houses in the village and obtained nearly all they had in their possession that they had brought from the wreck, excepting a large piece of sail now forming part of a house covered, and some bits of iron used as weights to keep the wind from unroofing their rounded bee-hive huts. They traded for almost everything we wanted, and were very polite in general and thought themselves well paid always. Saw them kill ducks with bolas.
