72 on the farther shore of the lake rise brown mtns [mountains] shaded with gray & yellow reflected in the lake beyond these higher mtns [mountains] darkened with timber & [beyond] all on the rim of the sky an assemblage of snowy peaks, with wide gl [glacial] vals [valleys] between, ice sculptured hushed, raven & owl croaking & hooting on the [plain] below. A robin in the cedar nearby. The sky brushed & [filmed] with gray & purple clds [clouds] [sketch of peak] One pk on left of lands [up] one smooth slope of snow The plain broken with table rocks, fragments 73 of the ancient fossiliferous deposits of the lake when covered all.
