A survey of 15 publicly-funded treatment agencies in Iowa was conducted to identify correlates of satisfaction with substance abuse treatment for voluntary clients. We used stratified least-squares regression analysis to identify program characteristics that were associated with greater satisfaction levels. In order to investigate satisfaction among voluntary clients, we stratified the data using three measures of client choice. These were self-reports of the extent to which the respondent felt pressured by the threat of jail, legal action, or family demands. Women tended to be more satisfied than men.
