Plasma polymerization (glow discharge or the cold plasma) is used for material surface processing as well as for fabrication of thin films and nanoclusters. The plasma polymerization is a simple, one-step, solvent-free technique used to fabricate materials with a broad spectrum of properties suitable for use in electronics, biomedical, and mechanical fields. The first section of this chapter briefly reviews the mechanisms of plasma polymerization, identifying key parameters that control this process. This is followed by an in-depth discussion of material characteristics, i.e., optical, electrical, chemical and structural properties, typical of plasma polymers, with select examples that focus on the use of plasma polymers as functional mater...
