Does health behaviour change after people receive the results of screening tests? A cohort from rural central Queensland were contacted through telephone interview at 6-month intervals following heart risk screening. Participants self-reported their health behaviour and identified aspects of their lifestyles that supported or inhibited positive health behaviour. Qualitative analysis revealed the types of changes made and the contextual issues that affected health behaviour. The majority of participants did change their behaviour or maintained existing positive behaviours. Some participants were unsuccessful in making health changes.
