Stakeholders' perceptions of two major integrated resorts-marina bay sands and resorts world sentosa in Singapore

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the views and attitudes of stakeholders towards Singapore's two major integrated resorts which were launched in 2010. The topics of interest are the perceived success of the developments in boosting destination branding and further their role in the predicted long-term success of the tourism industry of Singapore. The two kinds of stakeholders considered include the community and members of the tourism sector. The empirical work conducted was achieved through questionnaire studies and focus groups. In considering the wider applicability of integrated resorts as one style of development in tropical destinations, it is of interest to access the views of a wide range of stakeholders. The challenges and possibilities of incorporating and considering community views in particular in Asian countries is not an established process and the paper will reveal the methods and insights achieved in the Singaporean context with a view to suggesting how other destinations might determine the perspectives of those who both live with and live from tourism initiatives
