We read with interest the recent article by Wergeland et al., reporting that serum interferon-gamma inducible protein 10 (IP-10) may be a useful biomarker for differentiating between active tuberculosis (TB) and latent TB infection (LTBI), as well as for monitoring the effectiveness of anti-tuberculous therapy.1 However, a key limitation of this study was the absence of a 'sick control' group of patients with respiratory tract infections.
