One of the megatrends of the next 100 years will be the increased CO2-emissions and the resulting environmental impact on human kind. This megatrend will change the living standards and patterns of human kind fundamentally. In unison this change has to be softened and decreased according to governments and companies worldwide. Next to renewable energy, energy efficiency has been seen as a major key for reducing human generated CO2-emissions by linking economy and ecology. Efficient technologies have huge potential to reduce CO2-emissions especially in energy usage and conversion. Power plant manufacturer are more and more engaged to produce energy conversion components with high efficiency ratios. Research and development projects conducted studies to bring forward efficiency of condensers as one essential part of power plants in the last decades. These studies focused mainly on improving the heat conductivity by applying hydrophobic coatings on the condenser tubes. Increasing the heat conductivity ratio or k-value is a well known and investigated technology in laboratory scale. This technology, however, lacks industrial and economical method to apply a hydrophobic, long lasting and easy to renew coating on condenser tubes. Recent research efforts are focusing on providing such a method and coating material. This research thesis investigates coating technologies and evaluates their coating ca-pabilities by defined coating criteria. Moreover coating technologies not usable in large scale appliances are named and sorted out. Additionally coating materials are tested with regard to hydrophobia and longevity. After identifying coating technologies, types of down scaled condensers are used to test coating concepts in order to obtain an initial tube bundle coating as well as to check the re-coating handling. Developed coating ratios help to compare the results of each coating concept. The down scaled conden-sers were developed according to similarity principles. The stability and reproducibility of the coating is investigated by means of microscopic and macroscopic analyses. Thereby the theoretical coating criteria are compared to the achieved ones. Existing deviations of these criteria will be identified and discussed. Possible industrial usage and application will be pinpointed eventually and approaches for further improving the concepts will be given
