For the development of a hot gas cleanup unit in IGCC-power plants, information about thermodynamic properties of complex systems like coal slags are crucial. Focus of this thesis is the determination of alkali oxide activities (aNa2O, aK2O) in selected synthetic slag systems. As the potential of alkali retention depends on the alkali oxide activity in the slag thermodynamic studies are vital. To achieve an in-depth determination of alkali oxide activities Knudsen Effusion Mass Spectrometry (KEMS) measurements were undertaken in a quasi-senary system SiO2-Al2O3-CaO-MgO-K2O-Na2O.
