In Kenya, as in many parts of the developing world, school leaders face tremendous challenges in ensuring that schools deliver a good quality education for all children, including the most marginalized. This is of concern as the literature in the field of school improvement studies shows consistently that head teachers have a key role to play in enhancing the quality of learning and performance (Bush and Glover, 2014). The weight of these arguments seem to rest largely on the extent to which head teachers can create and sustain conducive physical environments and âschool climatesâ in which learning and teaching can thrive.
