We calculate the string tension and (part of) the glueball mass spectrum for SU (2) lattice gauge theory in three dimensions with the plaquette action. We extrapolate the masses and mass ratios to the continuum limit. We note and comment upon some remarkable similarities and differences between the three- and four-dimensional theories
