Economic and Social Development of the Russian Federation after the collapse of the USSR

After the collapse of the USSR, the political leadership of the Russian Federation decided to carry out a series of radical reforms which were supposed to introduce market mechanisms into the economy, and enable a rapid transition from a centrally planned economy to a market one. During the transformation period Russia had to face economic problems as well as problems in the social sphere. This thesis focuses on the economic and social changes that have taken place in Russia after the collapse of the USSR. The aim of the thesis lies in finding the factor that caused the deep social, income and wealth inequality in contemporary Russian society
