This paper examines some of the issues involved in the design of optical receivers for IR-LAN applications. Bootstrapped transimpedance preamplifiers and photoreceiver arrays are investigated as techniques for mitigating the effects of the large capacitances associated with the photodetector. In addition, the performance of a low cost, absorptive optical filter is analyzed and shown to have minimal angular dependence and low losses in the passband
