Stereoselective synthesis of conformationally constrained omega-amino acid analogues from pyroglutamic acid.

Bicyclic lactams derived from pyroglutamic acid provide a useful scaffold for synthesis of conformationally restricted analogues of lysine, ornithine and glutamine, as well as an Ala-Ala dipeptide analogue.
