We have utilized a new radioimmunoassay for rat growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) to investigate the presence of GHRH in different organ systems of adult rat, and specifically the rat central nervous system (CNS). The highest concentration of GHRH was found, as expected, in the hypothalamus, but significant amounts were also located in the brain cortex, predominantly the frontal cortex, as well as in the testis. Smaller amounts were identified in the cerebellum and brain stem.
