Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and perovskite solar cells are emerging as promising potential low-cost alternatives to established crystalline silicon photovoltaics. Of the employed functional materials, however, many fundamental optoelectronic properties governing photovoltaic device operation are not sufficiently well understood.
