Ellipse in newspaper

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of elliptical occurrence in the written language and its particular expression. The concept of a literary ellipse refers to the omission of parts of clauses containing information which is known in advance and without which is possible to understand the whole meaning of the sentence. The theoretical part covers the essential concepts of syntax in the German language and characterizes the role of ellipse in contemporary forms of expression together with its basic division, which is based on the scientific literature. The practical part analyses 90 extracts of ellipses that are selected from newspapers. After that, their syntactic, semantic and pragmatic dispositions are determined. Finally, the results are compared with the set hypotheses and evaluated with the final outcomes
