Epimeric azidoesters containing a glucofuranosyl moiety are readily prepared from glucoheptonolactone and may be reduced to corresponding aminoesters; such compounds may be useful intermediates for the generation of combinatorial libraries of glucofuranose mimics and of spiroderivatives of glucofuranose at the anomeric position.
