The thesis evaluates water purity using several indicators -- biological oxygen demand (5 days), chemical oxygen demand (dichromate), nitrogen as ammonia, nitrogen as nitrates and total phosphorus -- in years 1990--2009. It also examines how the construction of wastewater treatment plants has affected water quality and seeks to quantify the cost of improvement in water conditions
