Ödön von Horváth's Youth Without God - an autobiographical novel?

This bachelor thesis deals with the novel Youth without God written by Ödön von Horváth and its possible autobiographical features. It explores the connections between the author?s life and this literary work. The first part concentrates on the background of the novel?s origin. It summarizes the author?s life in connection with historical events during the years 1933-1937. It also deals with the history of novel?s own origin. Last but not least, there are also mentioned the documents related to the youth in the Third Reich. The second part concentrates fully on the analysis of the matter of autobiography. The initial chapter deals with the literary genre ?autobiography? and its novel form. An inseparable part of this thesis also constitutes a brief summary of the novel, which, next to the author?s biography is a basis for the following analysis of the thesis? theme.
