Art Brut. Creation of Psychotics in the Context of the Art World.

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the phenomenon of art brut, primarily the creations made by the mentally ill. Their works are created at the edge of the society, lack any ambition to become art and yet they appear in art institutions and thus become a part of the artistic world. The key issue of this thesis is the issue of their place in the artistic world. Is it possible to consider them art, and if so, where does their value lie? Where is the boundary between such works and high art? Is it possible to create art without any cultural influence? The thesis presented maps the historical changes in art brut, introduces the circumstances that led to emergence of this term and shows its development up to the present day. Furthermore, it deals with the issue of art brut?s classification and interpretation and also refers to it as a significant source of inspiration for some of the twentieth-century art movements
