Eclecticism is an attempt to demolish dogmatism without falling into the trap of skepticism. It is a response to the crisis of science, and its stagnation and lack of aperture to truth, wherever this my come from. In the face of the existing plurality of theories and techniques, it is a proposal of integration. Its scientific legitimacy, however, is questioned, as the desired integration implies a criterium of selection which is in need of justification. The purpose of this essay is to show what eclecticism reveals about the identity of science, the problems related to its orientation toward truth and its vocational foundations.
