This dissertation is aimed at cleft deformities and in particular at the medical and social issues surrounding them. Its primary aim was to establish the complications which influence the quality of life of these children and their families, while the secondary aim was to ascertain, whether these complications have an effect on the psychosomatic development of the child. The aims of the baccalaureate dissertation were fulfilled. The research study thus reveals that the aforementioned complications can have an effect on the quality of life should they require intensive medical attention. Thanks to early lip and palate operations we are nowadays able to eliminate the consequences of this congenital developmental condition
