The aim of this thesis is to emphasize the impact of tourism on the economies of developing countries as a tool for achieving economic growth and development. The first part is devoted to defining the basic concepts related to tourism, developing countries and UNDP. The theoretical part is followed by the analytical part that focuses on case studies of Kenya, India and Nigeria and the role of tourism in achieving the MDGs. The second part focuses on the analysis of tourism in India in terms of its preconditions for further development, the volume of visitor and impacts on the environment and local communities.
