The thesis serves as an overview of the clowns in all Shakespeare´s plays. They appear in comedies, historical plays, romances, as well as in all tragedies. The study deals in more detail with the types of Shakesperian clowns- with rustic clowns, jesters and fools. Their behaviour, place and function in the plays are determined through the analysed characters and with the help of social- and cultural-historical context. To more detailed examination are also subjected the greatest comics of the Globe Theatre- Will Kemp and Robert Armin. The best clowneries pervading Shakespeare's works illustrate examples of the plays
