Analysis of higher education in the Czech Republic

Abstract The Czech Republic needs a comprehensive plan to reform its high schools. The ambition of the Czech higher education is to belong in the top European and worldwide education systems in order to be competitive. The thesis analyzes the development of higher education in the Czech Republic since 1918 to present day, it also describes the development that is affected by European integration. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the status of Czech higher education system and the forthcoming reforms. The analysis is focused on the number of students at each university levels, subjects and ultimately analyses the expenditure on tertiary education in the Czech Republic. These values will be compared with the selected OECD countries. In conclusion of the thesis is the SWOT analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Czech System of higher education, as well as the principle of the law university. The current legislation of 1998 does not reflect the current status and the problems that the Czech higher education is faced with. This prevents the large growth of college students, the reduction in quality, as well as the negative financiation of the entire higher education system
