The bachelor thesis is concerned with satellite navigation systems (SNS) and their utilization in tourism. The first part of the thesis is focused on historical facts and a development of SNS. The next part deals with the functioning of SNS, both in space and in GPS devices and also with a map software which is essential to operation of GPS devices. The third part discusses the operation of SNS in the world, focusing on the European regional navigation system EGNOS and global navigation system Galileo which is planned to be launched in 2014.
