The first world war in the italian literature

The main subject of this thesis is to give a picture of the First World War in the Italian literature by comparing two Italian works of art which describe the experience from the First World War. The first chapter briefly introduces both authors and their literary activities. Then the First World War and its results are described. A separate chapter deals with the situation in Italy, which is used to create the contemporary atmosphere and to understand the meaning of the analysed works of art. The other chapters focus on the analysis of the novels Un anno sull?Altipiano by Emilio Lussu and Vent?anni by Corrado Alvaro. These two novels are analytically compared and the main motives and the way how the author by narrating expresses his opinion about the war are emphasized
