In my thesis I focused on American dancer and choreographer Doris Humphrey. I tried not only to approach her life in detail, but mainly to point out sources of inspiration that led to a technique based on the principle of ?fall x recovery?. She was inspired by both human being and his everyday experience and Fridrich Nietzsche and his philosophical work The Birth of Tragedy. Doris Humphrey created a system of exercises, which should lead to the development of her technique, and that?s why I chose a few exercises which illustrate this system. I dealt with detailed description of them and I enclosed photographs as well. At conclusion of my work I was thinking of her contribution to the development of modern dance techniques
