This thesis is engaged in compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach written for violoncello and instruments related to violoncello. It is divided into four chapters. The third chapter includes three subchapters. The first chapter deals with Bach´s Köthen period, the following chapter contains a brief article abou violoncello play in Italy in 17th century and pieces for solo violoncello which are the predecessors of Bach´s Suites for solo violoncello. The third chapter is dedicaded to general characterization of Bach´s violoncello suites.
