The aim of my thesis is to describe the early period of video art, which creates a relationship between an artist and video technology on the one hand and on the other hand establishes a specific artistic expression through this kind of technology. Examples of early conceptual video works of Joan Jonas, Bruce Naumann, Shigeko Kubota, Steve Partridge and Charlemagne Palestine demonstrate different attitudes and techniques of video art practice.
