Transformation of father´s role after the birth of a premature child from the psychosocial viewpoint

The bachelor thesis is based on the experience of problems with premature babies from the fathers? point of view. The main target of the bachelor thesis was to find out how the father sees his role after the birth of the premature child, to point out his feelings and needs and simultaneously to map the psychosocial impact on the family from his point of view. In the bachelor thesis the following research questions were asked: How the father felt in the period before and straight after the birth of the premature child? What helped tothe father to manage the unexpected situation? Did the situation reflect in any way in his normal life? The thesis was elaborated based on the qualitative research. Data was acquired based on talks with fathers and by the analysis of contents of documents. The research sample was fathers of children who were hospitalized in the neonatology ward of the Hospital in České Budějovice. The results of examination show that the premature birth of a child is, for the father a very difficult life experience, influencing considerably his everyday life. For the father, the fact that he has the opportunity to share with somebody his feelings and needs is very important
