Abidence to preventive disposal at clients with cardiovascular diseases

Adherence to preventive measures by patients with cardiovascular diseases The bachelor{\crq}s thesis deals with the problem of adherence to preventive measures by patients with cardiovascular diseases. The Theoretical part describes the various cardiovascular diseases and lifestyle factors affecting the onset of cardiovascular diseases, such as nutrition and dietary habits, smoking, alcohol, and obesity. Very important in this respect is the role of a general nurse in the examination methods in cardiology and in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Her role in helping clients to abstain from smoking and/or alcohol, in explaining healthy diet principles to clients` families and recommendations regarding good physical activity exercises for the individual clients in dependence on the type of their disease. Spa treatment options available to clients with cardiovascular diseases are also described. The objective of the study was to ascertain whether clients abide by healthy dietary habits, practise the recommended physical activity regimens and make efforts to reduce their weight with respect to their BMI, and whether female patients practise their preventive measures as regards their cardiovascular diseases more than male patients do. The following hypotheses in relation to the objectives were tested: Hypothesis 1: clients with cardiovascular diseases adhere to correct dietary habits. Hypothesis 2: clients with cardiovascular diseases practise the recommended physical activity regimen. Hypothesis 3: clients with cardiovascular diseases make efforts to reduce their weight with respect to their BMI. Hypothesis 4: women practise preventive measure in relation to their cardiovascular disease more than men do. A questionnaire containing 32 basic questions was set up for the Practical part. This part consisted in quantitative research using a questionnaire with closed as well as semi-open questions. The questionnaire was distributed among 100 clients of the Cardiology department, the in-patient wards and out-patient care department of the České Budějovice Hospital. Not all of the clients were willing to fill in the questionnaire. In fact, 81 questionnaires were completed, and this volume of questionnaires was processed and this number is taken as 100% respondents. The results of this project only confirmed hypotheses 1 and 2, whereas hypotheses 3 and 4 were not confirmed. The results of this work can be used for Cardiology Center clients as well as for general nurses working at various departments. The results of the study can also find application in the development of educational materials to serve as sources of information about how to prevent cardiovascular diseases
