Contemporary nursing care of children is based on the holistic approach aimed at the satisfaction of needs. Nurses in the majority of health facilities use documentation developed by M. Gordon. The nursing model by Virginia Henderson, however, is actually much better suited to the identification and subsequent satisfaction of children's needs. This model belongs to the category of models of needs and of humanistic models. A child's needs are divided into 14 basic domains in this model.
