EFFECT OF MOWING ON SPECIES COMPOSITION AND ABOVEGROUND BIOMASS OF A EUTROPHIE WET MEADOW

The bachelor thesis is part of Project No. 526/06/0276 of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, entitled Eutrophication of wet meadows: effect on plant {--} soil interactions with emphasis on carbon and nitrogen transformations, in which the Institue of Systems Biology and Ecology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic takes part. The aim of this work is to document the condition of a waterlogged herbaceous stand that had not been mown for more than 30 years, as well as of adjacent stands subject to different frequencies of mowing, all of them situated in the complex of the Wet Meadows near Třeboň. The work addresses the current state of the vegetation in respect of species composition and biomasss production on a selected part of the Wet Meadows. The results are compared with results of research that has been carried out on the locality during the previous 30 years. The conclusions confirm that the vegetation becomes unstable, with prevailing competitively strong and synanthropic species, especially Symphytum officinale, Urtica dioica, and Rumex obtusifolius.
