The objective of this research is to develop a formal semantic model, theoretical framework and methodology to facilitate interoperability among distributed and heterogeneous geographic database systems (GDSs). A set of prototype data management tools is being implemented to provide proof of concept for this work. Finally, a case study is being employed to evaluate the methodology and prototype tools which can provide further understanding of the interaction between human beings and computer-assisted schema integration
