The performance of the joint diversity and equalization techniques in an indoor radio environment are analyzed. 4, 16, and 64-QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) is considered. The results show that a system without protection yields very limited performance. When the channel introduces a low level of distortion, the diversity techniques perform better than the equalizer techniques; if the channel introduces a high degree of intersymbol interference, then the equalizer techniques are slightly better than the diversity techniques. Moreover, the joint equalization and diversity techniques are very effective tools for combating the degrading effect introduced by the indoor channel.
