Perforated free-standing ultrathin films (ca. 20-40 nm) of poly(lactic acid) will be prepared by spin-coating an immiscible blend, poly(lactic acid)/poly(ethylene glycol) or poly(lactic acid)/polystyrene. The composition of the blend will be adjusted to facilitate the formation of phase-separation induced nanopores, which will be observed after solvent etching.
