The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic

This thesis deals with the funding of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The first part of this thesis provides basic information on legal and institutional point of view of the AS CR and its previous institutions. It deals with current institutional framework of Czech research and development and its recent reforms. The second part of the thesis provides basic information about the last R&D reform that dramatically influences current situation of the AS CR and its future funding. It provides performance measurement of the AS CR and other institutions drawing the R&D financial sources based on comparison of the number of obtained patents, published books, articles etc. The current system of performance measurement of the Institutes of the AS CR is mentioned and compared with the evaluation systems used in foreign countries, e.g. in Italy and Germany. The conclusion summarizes the findings and on their bases judges the plans for future funding of Czech R&D considering the disclamer opinion of the AS CR
