El mildiu es una enfermedad potencialmente destructiva del girasol (Helianthus annuus L.), causada por el hongo Plasmopara halstedii (Farl.) Berl.& de Toni. El control de la enfermedad en la República Argentina se basa en la utilización de fungicidas específicos y resistencia genética. Uno de los genes de resistencia considerados en los programas de mejoramiento genético es el Pl6, efectivo contra todas las razas del patógeno identificadas en la República Argentina.
