The purpose of this bachelor's thesis is the description of data storing possibilities offered by the MySQL database management system. The first of four chapters describes the DBMS itself in general. The second chapter describes each data storing option, implemented by so-called storage engines. The engines are described both in general and according to determined criteria. The third chapter is dedicated to the questions of DBMS benchmarking, benchmarking tools and practical benchmarking. The last part describes the choice of storage engines for specific application types. The thesis should serve as a lead when considering MySQL as the DBMS for a specific application, as much of a guide when choosing the right data storage option
