'Praelectiones Publicae ... Illustrissimi Parentis Mei'

Notes from Linnaeus Pater’s lectures. Quarto notebook with many inserted loose leaves. Hand-stitched brown paper cover, similar to the 'Notebook of extracts' (GB-110/LM/LF/NH/1) and 'Cultura plantarum' (GB-110/LM/LF/BOT/1/1/2). First part of the notebook has been paginated by Linnaeus fil. Indicates the paragraph numbers in the printed "Philosophia botanica" (1751). Later pencil notes by Arvid H. Uggla indicate the page numbers. Some drawings. The annotations date from different years. Coloured title page ('Praelectiones Publicae | in Horto Academico | Illustrissimi Parentis | Mei | de | Plantis | semestri autumnali | Anni 1755 | annotatae | a | Carolo Linnaeo Fil:'). The bound annotations must date after 1757, as René Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur's death on 18 October 1757 is recorded (fol. 25v), but before 1760 as Johannes Burmann is said to be editing Charles Plumier's "Plantarum Americanarum fasciculus primus" (Amsterdam, 1755-1760) (fol. 12r). Contents: Annotations from Linnaeus pater's lectures about 'Philosophia botanica', ff. 4r-56r: 'Bibliotheca', corresponds to 'Bibliotheca' in "Philosophia botanica"': much more comprehensive lists of botanical authors, in thematical order following the paragraphs in "Philosophia botanica". Ff. 49-54 written at a different date than the bulk. ff. 56v-78: ' Cap. 2. Systemata', corresponds to 'Systemata' in "Philosophia botanica"'. ff 59-64 written at a different date from the bulk. ff. 65, and 69-71 in Linnaeus pater handwriting. ff. 79-96r: Various notes, taken at different times, on the 'Plantae' section of "Philosophia botanica". ff. 96v-102/106 (overlap): Various notes, taken at different times, on the 'Frutificatio' section of "Philosophia botanica". ff. 107-112: notes on the 'Sexus' section of "Philosophia botanica". ff. 113-120: Various notes, taken at different times, on the 'Characteres' section of "Philosophia botanica". ff. 121-124: notes on the end sections of "Philosophia botanica", including 'Tyro', 'Herbarium', 'Hortus', and 'Peregrinatio'. f. 125: drawing of branches and leaves, reminiscent of Linnaeus pater's work on the ontogeny of flowers and leaves (see GB-110/LM/LP/BOT/6/21, and the dissertation "Prolepsis plantarum", defended 22 December 1760 by Henrik Ullmark (1740-1771).)
